Playing Catch up!

Wow!  Where in the world have we been??  I can’t believe it’s been so long since I last posted anything.  The last several weeks have been a whirlwind.  We have been busy trying to stay cool in this miserable Alabama heat! 

Sweet Emily Kate is growing so much.  I can hardly believe she will be 2 months old this coming week.  She has been a fairly good baby.  The poor thing has had thrush twice and a double ear infection.  Compared to Edward (as a baby), she is so much easier.  She sleeps good and for the last 2 weeks only wakes up for one feeding.  She just goes with the flow and spends a lot of time in her carseat.

Edward is learning more and more everyday.  He will be 28 months this coming week.  It’s amazing the things that he remembers.  He talks ALL the time and is all boy.  He loves to sing his ABC’s and count to 13.  In fact, he loves to put on a show for anybody!!!  He is a very loving brother and loves to take care of his “Emmi Kate”.  He has gotten a lot better with his meltdowns and seems to be adjusting to our newest family member.

Brooke has been gone majority of the summer.  I guess she has wanted to distance her self from the constant chaos and she’s the typical 13 year old girl.  She just recently returned from a two week trip to Kentucky, Michigan, Niagara Falls (Canada and New York), Boston and Virginia.  She traveled with her biological maternal grandparents.  She enjoyed her trip but quickly learned how much she missed us and that we weren’t so bad after all!!!!

We’ve enjoyed play dates, time spent with Gee (my mom) and time with Nana Clay (Thomas’ mom).  We have a jam packed week coming up and I can’t wait to blog about a Sip and See my mom is having for Emily Kate and my nephew William and a trip to the beach with my mother-in-law, sister-in-law, niece and my three kids.  Until then, here are a few pictures to update you.

Touch A Truck 2010

It has been a long and trying week since we've been home. Edward has really struggled with his new sister. He is very sweet to her. He holds her, kisses her head, hands and feet. Mom was here for the week and was a HUGE help with Edward. She was sure to give him LOTS of attention and love. He has been defiant and has constant meltdowns. I don't know if it is the two year old in him coming out or if he is just trying to adjust to a new family member.

Saturday was Opelika's 2nd Annual Touch A Truck event. They had 3 dozen vehicles for children to come and touch, sit in and honk horns. Thomas and his dad took Edward. To get into the event you had to bring a new toy to be given to the fire department's Toys for Tots program. Edward was SO excited about spending the morning with Daddy and Pot and the "big trucks".

Edward saw a fire truck, UPS truck, tow truck, wrecker, tractors of all sorts, an ambulance, a helicopter, etc. When he got home I loved hearing him tell me all about it. He just lit up! The event was held along the railroad track in downtown Opelika and as an added bonus, the train just happened to run while they were there!!

I look forward to being able to go with him next year!

May 26, 2010

On May 26, 2010 we welcomed our precious little girl, Emily Katherine Corbitt, into the world. She weighed 7 lbs. 10 oz. and was 20 in. long.

I was scheduled for a c-section at 7:30 and was a complete wreck! We arrived at the hospital at 6:00 and they began prepping me for surgery. As I laid in that bed, I thought of the thousands of things that could go wrong! I am quite the worrier. The day before, I had tripped and fell right on my stomach. I also worried that my fall could have done some damage to our baby girl. My doctor came in a little about 7:30 and informed us that my surgery was pushed back due to an emergency c-section. This gave me another hour and a half to get my nerves stirred up. By this point, I was very anxious to meet our little girl. Who would she look like? Would she have a lot of hair? How much would she weigh? All of these questions helped to calm me. I had family coming in and out and I enjoyed my visit with them. About 9:00 they wheeled me to the OR. Thomas begged my doctor to allow him to be in there with me when they made the cut. They don't usually allow people to do this in case the mother feels pain upon the cut. Dr. H is so wonderful and allowed him to be in there from the very beginning. This c-section was a much better experience than my first. I am so glad we decided to change doctors. At 9:50 a.m. our sweet little girl was born!

I had a WONDERFUL 3 day stay in the hospital with hardly any visitors. It was a really nice time to relax and recuperate.

I will try to update as often as possible. My time now seems to be limited with a very active 2 year old and a newborn. Stay tuned......

Welcome to the World, Baby Girl!

On Wednesday, May 26, 2010, we welcomed Emily Katherine Corbitt to the world.  She weighed 7 lbs. 10 oz. and was 20 inches long.  She is absolutely perfect!!!  We are headed home today so hopefully I will be able to get to blogging soon.  For now, here are some pictures of sweet Emily Kate!

36 weeks and a Baby Shower

On Wednesday I was 36 weeks and I had my check-up. My doctor decided that he would not check to see if I was dilated because I am currently taking an antibiotic for possibly having strep. Apparently he had planned on testing me for Group B strep, but the antibiotic would mess up the culture. He said he would go ahead and do all of that next week. I was a little disappointed because I have convinced myself that I am already dilated :). Thomas and I along with my doctor have discussed several times the possibility of a c-section. I had one with Edward and based on the events during my labor experience with him, my doctor feels that I do not have the bone structure to deliver a baby. Yesterday, we went ahead and scheduled a c-section for May 26. I am excited, nervous, anxious, etc., etc.! Part of me hopes that Emily Kate comes early so that I can try to have her on my own! If not, it's only 20 more days until we meet our little girl. We are so excited and I have been very busy trying to make sure I have all that I need and that the room is ready!



On Sunday, some wonderful friends threw me a great baby shower! I have been so nervous this whole pregnancy because I have absolutely nothing for a little girl! I received some wonderful gifts and can't wait to use all my cute clothes, blankets, etc.! I wish I had some great pictures to post, but I don't. Sorry! I will be sure to keep everyone updated in the coming weeks!
